i did not do well at the vet
oh i look calm in this picture but this is after i shrieked and howled and hissed and growled and struggled and bit and clawed and threw up (twice) and foamed at the mouth, and then pooed. i hope i do better next time, but i don't have a lot of confidence that i will. The doctor and nurse just laughed because believe it or not, they have seen cats who act much worse!

Hmm... I hope you do better next time. Next time I hope they don't laugh!
Wow, thats quite a list to get through in one visit. You must be tired out.
The technician in the back looks a bit like Doogie Howser! You did a lot! We try not to do them all in one visit, but we think you may have hit them all, Eddy!
Poor Edward. It can be a very traumatic experience.
You were busy Eddy. That's a lot of stuff going on in that office. I hope you do okay next time. Have faith.
Holy crap! Literally.
(grin)
(I'll admit it--I laughed out loud after reading your account of your first visit. Hell, I'm still laughing.)
Good god, Edward. I mean....GEEZ.
I thought you might have a bad first time, but that is quite possibly the worst first vet visit I've ever heard of.
Except for this one, which might make you feel better.
A few years ago, I was feeding a feral kitten who became socialized enough that I could touch him. When he was about a year old, he developed a rather alarming cough. He sounded like a seal barking. I decided to take him to the vet. I already had a collar on him by that time but he was still an outside cat. I caught him and hooked him to a leash and he proceeded to flip and flop around the yard like a fish out of water. I was so surprised by his reaction that I stood there laughing for a minute before I finally caught him. I took him to the vet in a carrier. Getting him in the carrier was pretty much like trying to get a raccoon into a carrier. It was difficult. But I did it. I get to the vet and the vet tech asks me to get him out of the carrier so she can weigh him. I opened the carrier door and she grabbed him. She spun around in her arms like a whirling dervish, went air born, hit the examination table running and flew onto the floor and, I'm not kidding, ran up the wall. UP THE WALL. He hit the ceiling, fell to the floor, ran towards us--we screamed--and then he ran back to the corner and dove into a console that contained a tv and vcr. It took us about twenty minutes to extract him.
I was fairly certain that he was so revved up that he was going to die of heart failure. But he didn't. He did have pneumonia though and that's how he started to transition into the indoors. He still spent most of his time outdoors but would come in randomly during the day and take a nap on the chair.
His name was Junior and he was so soft and cuddly and loose-limbed that when you picked him up, it felt like he had no bones.
Junior is the cat that died of hypertrophic cariomyopathy at the mere age of 3. He was such a sweetheart. It was sad to see him die so young, but he had so much fun and so many adventures in those 3 years. We should all be so lucky to live such interesting, fun-filled, loving lives as Junior.
Edward, I hope your next vet visit goes a bit better.
(meanwhile, those vet techs are brave souls, aren't they?)
Afterwards, as the vet tech was examining the scratches on her arms from Junior's whirling dervish imitation, she dead-panned:
Well, I've never seen a cat do THAT before.
Wo-hoo; lots to express!
there are a lot of youtube videos of cats freaking out.
the vet tech that looks like Doogie Howser is actually my Doctor. He's like 45 years old and has an incredible amount of pets himself. toothless dogs that nobody wanted, parrots that people abandoned, ancient kitty cats, ducks, turtles, snakes and more. He is the most wonderful doctor ever, and Dennis adores him, but I just went crazy on him.
You just got me laughing again, dude.
"I just went crazy on him."
Oh, my god. Thank you so much for making me laugh out loud several times today. At your expense.
As some comedian said, I can't recall who:
I'm not laughing AT you.
I'm laughing NEAR you.
(smile)
You had quite an adventure at the vet's, Edward. I think you covered all the bases of how to express your dislike of the place.
You asked about Squillions. Squillions are ceramic kitties who come from Walgreen's. I think they first appeared last summer and they became quite popular in the Cat Blogosphere. They were first described as a litter of squillions who needed to be adopted and the name stuck. I guess you could consider them good luck, as they are now quite hard to find.
ah poor eddy.
nope, they don't look bothered in the slightest.
Dennis thinks it may have been something Dennis said to Eddy in the car that helped get Eddy all freaked out. Dennis was only trying to prepare Eddy for the visit to the Doctor.
Eddy, Eddy... what did Dennis say to you on the way to the vet's? Haven't you learned by now not to believe everything Dennis says???? Listen to Ched instead.
don't fret... I worked in the health care field for years and years - even helped train physicians. I still get freaked if I have to go to the doctor so, I'm sorry to say, I rarely ever go....some of us are just wired this way.....
I try to eat well, exercise, think good thoughts and be the best human that I can....maybe in my next life I will come back as a cat!
Bitchlet thinks Dennis was only trying to prepare Eddy. It's Eddy who got it all wrong. How did Ched do?
My goodness. Perhaps more than WAT or Dennis, Eddy needs the therapy!
Eddy, don't worry about it!! When I was a kitten,I traveled with Mom when she used to visit her Mom. It was fun. After many years,I stopped liking the car and would scream, foam at the mouth and poo!!!!! After that she left me home :)
Heeheehee
Purrs Mickey
Dennis is not a so selfish cat. He can share his pink cat box with you.
And even his favorite doctor.
(I cannot recognize the doctor, just the gorgeous office wallpaper.)
Awwww you poor poor darling! it'll get better when you get used to going
Dennis had to share his carrrier because Eddy had a soft small one and he smelled it all up by peeing in it in the car. (I was telling him about the doctor's needles at the time)
Aw, Eddy. I'm sorry you got so scared.
Maybe CBT (Cat Behavioural Therapy) might help you next time?? :D
Due to a technical whoopsie, I've been missing all the Eddie posts! So Sorry! These are wonderful. I realise now what a good cat Pusskin was when we took him to vet first! Keep at it, Eddy, the world is your oyster :-)
